Leader in Me

At Mesa View Elementary, we are proud to be a Leader in Me School. Leader in Me is based on The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People by Stephen R. Covey and helps students develop the leadership and life skills they need to thrive.

Through lessons, activities, and daily practice, students learn how to:

  • Take responsibility for their choices (Habit 1: Be Proactive)

  • Set goals and make plans to achieve them (Habit 2: Begin with the End in Mind)

  • Prioritize what matters most (Habit 3: Put First Things First)

  • Work well with others and build positive relationships (Habits 4–6: Think Win-Win, Seek First to Understand, Synergize)

  • Take care of themselves and continually grow (Habit 7: Sharpen the Saw)

  • Find their voice and inspire others (Habit 8)

Leader in Me creates a culture where every student is seen as a leader. It empowers students to take ownership of their learning, build confidence, and contribute positively to our school and community.

  • Ask your child about the habit they are learning.

  • Encourage them to use the habits at home (e.g., setting goals, planning their time, or helping with teamwork).

  • Celebrate their growth as leaders—big or small!
